Common Uses of FioricetGeneric Name: acetaminophen/butalbital/caffeine. Acetaminophen is a pain-killer and fever reducer. Butalbital is in a class of drugs called barbiturates that slow down your central nervous system (brain and nerve impulses) causing relaxation. Caffeine is believed to constrict dilated blood vessels that may contribute to tension headaches.
How to Use Fioricet
Take one to two Fioricet tablets or capsules every four hours. 325-500 mg of Fioricet per capsule or tablet - take a maximum of six capsules or tablets per day, 650 mg of Fioricet per capsule or tablet - take a maximum of four capsules or tablets per day.
Higher doses of Fioricet could increase the risk of severe liver toxicity. Do not exceed these guidelines without the express recommendation of your healthcare provider. Extended and repeated use of Fioricet is not recommended because of the potential for physical dependence (addiction).
Fioricet PrecautionsWhile Fioricet is a highly effective product, it has been associated with an increased risk of addiction when used improperly, or for too long. Never take Fioricet in greater doses, or for a longer period, than recommended by your doctor. Fioricet may not be suitable for some patients, and some conditions require that this medication be taken in lower doses or with other precautions. Discuss a history of any of the following conditions with your doctor so that your treatment will be as safe as possible. Alcohol or drug abuse: You may be at an increased risk for liver damage or dependence.
Allergic reaction to any barbiturate, acetaminophen, or caffeine: Asthma, Depression, Diabetes (sugar), Heart disease, Hepatitis or other liver damage, Hyperactivity (children), Kidney disease, Overactive thyroid, Porphyria.
Fioricet Side EffectsThe most frequently reported adverse reactions or side effects include: drowsiness, light-headedness, dizziness, sedation, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting (if it occurs without other symptoms of overdose), feeling of intoxication.

Additional Fioricet InformationDo not share Fioricet with others. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take Fioricet if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the amount to catch up. Store Fioricet at room temperature between 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
